What is SUBOXONE®?
- SUBOXONE® is a prescription medication that has proven effective when used in treatment for opioid addiction. It is most effective as part of a unique and comprehensive opioid addiction treatment plan, which we develop for each of our clients at TMS of MIAMI.
- It works by inhibiting the body’s craving to use opiates and also minimizes withdrawal symptoms. Although suboxone requires close monitoring by a physician, one of the advantages of this treatment is that it can be managed on an outpatient basis. After a comprehensive evaluation, suboxone can be prescribed and picked up at your local pharmacy.
- SUBOXONE® has two primary ingredients, buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means that it mimics a toned-down version of the effects of opioids and reduces cravings. Naloxone is an antagonist that blocks or reverses opioids’ effects on the brain and body. Combined, these ingredients reduce withdrawal symptoms and addictive cravings, which makes it significantly easier for our patients to stop relying on opiates for relief and to begin a happier and healthier sober life in recovery.
